About The Black Sanctuary
Our Purpose
The purpose of The Black Sanctuary Inc. is active engagement in the development and implementation of anti-racism strategies through the lens of historical reappraisal and educational reform. We aim to contribute vital insights to the community regarding African Studies and Black History, countering the historical marginalization and misperception of Black and African existence. Our initiatives include research, publication, and the dissemination of knowledge on the contributions of Black, African and African Diaspora individuals and communities in various disciplines. By doing so, we seek to rectify historical inaccuracies and fill gaps in the global understanding of African Studies and Black History. Our goal is to foster a more inclusive and accurate portrayal of World History, influencing educational curricula, public discourse, and cultural understanding, making a lasting positive impact on global society’s perception and appreciation of Black heritage, legacy, and culture.
Our vision is for a world where the full spectrum of Black History and African Studies receives universal acknowledgement and value, contributing to a more equitable and informed global society. We envision a future where the diverse narratives and contributions of Black, African and people of the African Diaspora are an integral and recognized part of World History, leading to greater understanding, respect, and appreciation across all cultures. We strive to create a society where the richness of the heritage and identities comprised Blackness are a celebrated and essential component of our collective historical consciousness.
OUR VISION
At The Black Sanctuary Inc., our mission is to uncover and elevate the underrepresented narratives and experiences within Black History and African Studies. The Black Sanctuary Inc. is dedicated to driving anti-racism research and education forward, aiming to end systematic oppression and inequity within communities, organizations, and institutions, with the goal of eliminating racism. Our approach includes reevaluating current racial systemic dynamics within organizations and institutions to dismantle and rebuild areas that function inequitably. So that the rich erased, misperceived, or muted contributions of Black, African, and individuals and communities of the African Diaspora become understood equitably in their participation in shaping the world’s history, philosophy, religion, and education. Our work focuses on bringing to light the often-overlooked aspects of the Black existence and providing the community global society an accurate and inclusive representation of World History.

Our Leadership
Dr. Meloney Jordan
Founder and Director
As an African Studies scholar and Ph.D. graduate from Howard University, Dr. Meloney Jordan has demonstrated a profound commitment to expanding and enriching the discourse in African and African Diaspora studies. Dr. Jordan’s research delves deeply into African and African Diaspora culture, language, religion, philosophy, gender, and history, focusing specifically on reappraising Black History and African Studies. Her work aims to uncover and elevate the underrepresented value within the Black existence through a critical evaluation of narrative and experience. Her initiative A.C.T.N.O.W. stands for Anti-racism Centered Theory: No Oppression Worldwide, which operates within a framework of anti-racism to educate and dismantle operating structures of inequity.
Dr. Jordan’s dedication remains steadfast in advancing the field of Africana Studies, particularly in relation to the Black existence and people of African ancestry’s contributions within history, philosophy, religion, and education. Through this commitment, Dr. Jordan aims to make a positive impact on the growing body of knowledge in African History and Black History to reinforce the understanding of such disciplines as essential to building an accurate World History. Her work aims to enlighten the global society about the immense benefits of a better understanding and representation of a segment of World History that has long been overlooked and underrepresented. As the founder of The Black Sanctuary Inc., Dr. Jordan is ideally positioned to lead the organization, bringing both academic rigor and a passionate commitment to shedding light on vital aspects of Black History and Africana Studies.
